Fana Socks

Three sizes. Inspired by the 19th century Norwegian Fana Cardigan, the traditional star, band and checkerboard motifs make this sock fun to knit in four sizes. The stockinette stitch heel flap is knitted in a checkerboard pattern, with a round heel and toe. The gauge is 8 stitches/inch in 2 color stockinette stitch. Guernsey or firm sport weight yarn recommended for a dense, warm sock.  Sock yarn makes a lighter weight sock. Gauge in 2 color St st Dotted Band pattern: 8 stitches/ inch, 10 rounds/ inch

Featured Techniques: Two-Color Three-Strand Cast-On, Knitting with a color in each hand, Multi-color Continental Knitting, Round Heel theory, Round Toe.

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large (child through medium woman), Extra Large (man)

Materials

•Yarn: sport weight wool (246 yards/100 gram skein): 1 (1,1,2) skeins of Main Color yarn (MC- darker yarn), 1 skein of Contrasting Color yarn (CC is lighter yarn)

OR use sock yarn for a lighter-weight sock.

•Needles: U.S. sizes 0 and 2 (2.0 and 2.75 mm) dp needles, or size needed to obtain gauge
