Swedish Workshops and Patterns

Knitting came to Scandinavia in the 1500s, and by the mid-1600s, exports from Sweden of stockings, mittens and jackets reached into the tens of thousands of items.  One could even pay one's taxes with knitting for a time!  Local garments, such as the North Halland Red and Black Pullover, flourished in many areas of Sweden. In the southeastern district of Dalarna, Tvåänddsstickning  (Twined Knitting) developed for small items such as mittens and socks.  Later, the technique was used in the sleeves or bodies of larger garments.
