The samples knitted in this class will give experience in a variety of shoulder and neckline combinations for unshaped necklines; shoulder joins (perpendicular shoulder join, and variations of the knitted bind-off); neck gussets (shoulder strap gussets, triangular neck gusset, inverted triangular neck gusset); and neckbands (buttoned and ribbed crew). To integrate all these techniques, the two samplers will include the following:
Sample A: Unshaped neck, knitted bind off on the RS and WS of the work, inverted triangular gusset on one side, ribbed crew neckband with triangular neck gusset on the other side.
Sample B: Perpendicular shoulder join, strap gusset on one side, buttoned neckband.
LENGTH: 3 hours
- Yarn: Two colors of worsted weight yarn, 2 oz. EACH.
- Needles: One set 7″ long dp needles EACH, sizes 6 and 8. Optional:16″ long sizes 6 and 8 circular needles.
- Notions: Magnetic board or ruler to keep one’s place on the graph, st holders, st markers, cable needle, thread, sewing needle, 2 buttons (1/2″).
PRE-CLASS PREPARATION: Two sets of two swatches of 60 sts in width, 2″ in length, on contrast yarn.
Swatches 1 and 2: With the first color, cast on 60 sts, work stockinette stitch for 2″, put on contrast yarn after completion. Make 2.
Swatches 3 and 4: With the second color, cast on 60 sts, work stockinette stitch for 2″, put on contrast yarn. Make 2.
