Gansey Fingerless Mitt Kit

$22.95

Ganseys are the traditional British fisherman’s sweater from the 1800s. Some of the techniques used in making a gansey sweater will be learned by knitting this fingerless mitt.

Description

The Channel Island Cast-on and garter stitch split welts which are optionally overlapped will make up the gauntlet. The remainder of the mitts is worked circularly. Small cables and traditional knit/purl motifs will be worked in the hand. A thumb gusset reminiscent of the lower half of an underarm gusset is surrounded by the small baby cables. In addition, explanations of the raised increases and the lovely picot hem finish are included.

The gauge is 7 sts/inch.  The suggested needles are US 1 (2.25mm).

The kit contains one skein of Gansey yarn (100% wool), in one of the three colors, red, navy, or white. This yarn is NOT superwash. The pattern includes charts and suggestions for further reading on the subject of ganseys.
