Latvians have a rich history of mitten-knitting, and their motifs and color use, as well as their decorative techniques, are beautiful and intriguing.

This kit contains the pattern and all the yarn you’ll need to knit my design Latvian Fingerless Mitts, in a zippered project bag. There are 5 skeins of Brooklyn Tweed’s Arbor in Ranier, Butte, Alizarin, Wreath, and Tincture.
You will need a set of US size 4 (3.5mm) double-pointed needles to knit the mitts circularly, but you can use the Magic Loop if you prefer. The mitts will fit a medium woman’s hand (7 to 7 1/2″ circumference above thumb).
These fingerless mitts were chosen for the cover of “Knitting Traditions” magazine a few years ago. The scalloped edge, created by a lace panel, is emphasized by two different half-braids. The Herringbone Braid is created at the wrist. A traditional motif is worked in the upper half in your choice of two, three, or four colors. The mitt ends with a picot hem.
