Lusekofte Socks Kit

This kit and sock pattern is inspired by the Norwegian Setesdal Lusekofte, or lice jacket, of the 19th century in the Setesdal Valley of Norway.

The design layout of these socks is reminiscent of the actual lice-jacket (lusekofte) garment: white motifs on a black background in the upper leg, the lus, or lice stitch in the main body of the sock, and the white toe that reflects the plain white lower body of these beloved sweaters. The heel features a star motif. (There are three star-motifs, depending on the size knitted.) The socks are worked circularly in color-stranded knitting, from the top to the toe, and are constructed with the Band Heel and the Wide Toe. Information on the Long Tail Cast-on, knitting with a yarn in each hand, and Kitchener Stitch is included.

The sizes are based on the leg circumference:
Small (Child- 6″)
Medium (Woman- 8″)
Large (Man-10″)

The kits contain Frangipani Guernsey 100% wool yarn, which is NOT a superwash yarn. Small and Medium-sized kits hold one skein each of black and white. The Large-sized kit has two skeins of black and one of white yarn.  The gauge in 2-color stockinette stitch (the lus pattern) is 8 sts/ inch, 10 rnds/ inch. The suggested needle size is US 0 and 1 (2.0 and 2.25 mm).

The pattern includes technique boxes and photos, theory boxes, charts, glossary, bibliography, and schematic.
