This tam is made from 4 different yarns, but never more than 2 in a round, as is customary in traditional Fair Isle knitting. It is comprised of ribbing, a border pattern area, and the wheel area in which the top part of the tam is created. Four sizes are included to outfit the entire family!

This tam is made from 4 different yarns, but never more than 2 in a round, as is customary in traditional Fair Isle knitting. It is comprised of ribbing, a border pattern area, and the wheel area in which the top part of the tam is created. Four sizes are included to outfit the entire family!

Sizes: Toddler: 18″ (Small: 20″, Medium: 22″, Large: 24)” head circumference.

Featured Techniques: Double Cast On, tubular ribbing, slipping stitches, working with a color in each hand, traditional border and tam wheel patterns, centered double decrease, and the I-Cord finish.

Gauge: 6 sts/inch in two color stockinette stitch on larger size ndls or size needed to obtain gauge.


Materials

  • Yarn: Sport Weight yarn, approximately 2 (2, 2, 2.5) oz. of main color (MC), 1 (1, 1, 1.5) oz. of each of 3 contrasting colors (CC).
  • Needles: US sizes 2 and 4 (3.0mm and 3.5mm) 16″ circular needles. One set of US size 4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles.
  • Notions: Stitch markers.
