Novelty Cap and Mittens Pattern

Intermediate. This mitten and cap set are knitted by holding two different colors of worsted weight yarns together, while “laying in” a thick novelty yarn for accent. Knitted on US size 10 1/2 (6.5 mm) dpn, this project can be completed quickly.  It is suitable for handspun yarns as well!  The gauge in St st using 2 strands of worsted weight held together is 3 sts and 4 rows/ 1 inch.

Materials

  • Yarns: 1 skein novelty yarn to be laid in at cuff  and brim (about 12 yards), 4 (4, 5) oz./200 (200, 250) yd. skein each of two worsted weight yarns (one dark colored, one light colored).
  • Needles: US size 10 1/2 double-point needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.
