Karneval Gloves Pattern

$8.00

This glove pattern is inspired by the Estonian Roositud gloves I have seen made in the Roosimine technique, and are worked on small needles with eight colors of Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumper weight yarn.

Description

I spent a month traveling around Estonia several years ago. Everywhere I saw knitting I was taken aback by the skill and ingenuity of the knitters, illustrated by the unique techniques used in socks, gloves, mittens, shawls, and more. With the advent of new books on Estonian techniques, more is known about the rich diversity of knitting methods used in this Baltic country.

These gloves are inspired by the Roositud gloves I saw in Estonia.  They are worked in the round from the cast-on to the fingertips. After the Scalloped Lace Cuff, small Knitted Motifs are worked at the wrist. The remaining stitches of the gloves are worked in the Main Color, while the Contrast Colors are worked in Roosimine, the inlay technique used for Roositud articles. An Afterthought Thumb is worked in the palm of each hand. When the Hand Chart is completed, the stitches are divided for the fingers each of which is worked with Roosimine motifs.

The pattern includes charts and photos, a reading list and abbreviations used.
