Description
This gansey is reminiscent of many of the old ganseys that featured horizontal panels of simple knit/purl motifs, like those from Newhaven near the English Channel. This type of layout is easy to knit because only one motif is worked at a time, across the front and back, rather than many different motifs worked vertically next to each other. The underarm gusset is unusual in that it is worked in reverse stockinette stitch and has a six-stitch knitted seam that surrounds and bisects the gusset. Although it is knitted in the traditional yarn, this garment has a softer hand, knitted at six stitches/inch rather than seven.
