Description
This tam is made from 4 different yarns, but never more than 2 in a round, as is customary in traditional Fair Isle knitting. It is comprised of ribbing, a border pattern area, and the wheel area in which the top part of the tam is created. Four sizes are included to outfit the entire family!
Sizes: Toddler: 18″ (Small: 20″, Medium: 22″, Large: 24)” head circumference.
Featured Techniques: Double Cast On, tubular ribbing, slipping stitches, working with a color in each hand, traditional border and tam wheel patterns, centered double decrease, and the I-Cord finish.
Gauge: 6 sts/inch in two color stockinette stitch on larger size ndls or size needed to obtain gauge.
Materials
- Yarn: Sport Weight yarn, approximately 2 (2, 2, 2.5) oz. of main color (MC), 1 (1, 1, 1.5) oz. of each of 3 contrasting colors (CC).
- Needles: US sizes 2 and 4 (3.0mm and 3.5mm) 16″ circular needles. One set of US size 4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles.
- Notions: Stitch markers.
