I was inspired by Snowflake Bentley to design these socks. He was the first person to photograph snowflakes and lived in Vermont in the 20th century. These socks are knitted in the round from the cuff to the toe, and begin with a Herringbone Braid at the top. The directions offer an option to learn Intarsia in the Round, but you can also strand the socks. They are made from:
• Valley Yarns Huntington sock yarn (75% Superwash Merino wool and 25% Nylon): 2 skeins of red and 1 skein of white for the snowflakes (machine washable).
• The pattern includes photos, charts, theory boxes, technique boxes, a schematic, a list of abbreviations, a reading list for further study,
• Techniques include: Herringbone Braid, Intarsia in the Round, The Dutch Heel and Wedge Toe, and Kitchener Stitch
• Sizes include: Small Child (4-8 years)-6″ (15 cm) [Medium Adult-8” (20.25 cm), Large Adult-10” (25.25 cm)] (Circumference of sock leg)
